I spotted a bird today that I've never seen before in this area. It's a yellow-headed blackbird, Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus, and it's got the ugliest song I've heard for a long time.
According to this website they're not known to be in this area. They're co-existing with the normal redwinged blackbirds we see all the time. There were about 10 of them, all happily picking through the compost for tasty bugs.
