The chicken collar: FAIL

To those folks who were interested in the chicken collar: The dog just ate the chickens. Back to the drawing board for that dog. Right now he's under close supervision every day he's at the farm. He's a nice dog, but I can't afford to lose any more birds.

I'm glad you reported back on that, I was wondering and curious, since I've heard that lore too. Well, I guess we can chalk that one up to a wives' tale! Maybe he can wear a muzzle while he's on the farm? It could be that lots of conditioning to be around chickens and not eat them because he physically can't would be enough, to where eventually you could start removing the muzzle.

There is always the shock collar, which I think can be effective, but comes with risks (like the dog jumping to the wrong conclusion about why he's being shocked, and becoming fearful of ordinary things; or figuring out he only gets shocked eating chickens when you're watching...)

I think most farm dogs aren't born doing the right thing, they need a lot of training...
