I've wanted to grow watermelons for a while, but haven't had any luck. So this year I tried planting sugar baby watermelons, and it looks like I'm actually going to get a good sized crop.
I have 50 vines, and each vine seems to be setting between 10 and 15 melons. I don't know how many will survive, but it looks good so far.
These are the "personal" sized watermelons, mature at 5-6lbs. I picked them because the growing season was shorter. The greenhouse seems to have made all the difference though -- that, and the hot weather we've had so far this year. Between the two it looks promising. I'm excited!
